Once again, I seem to have forgotten some rather basic precepts in dealing with people: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. So, this time, kiddies, let’s learn from our goddamn mistakes and walk away from trouble before it decides to set up shop somewhere uncomfortably close.

Yes, that’s unusually cryptic, but then again, I’m not feeling expository these days. I’m feeling under the radar, as it were, and I’ll lay low for a while. I should imagine that if I can lay low ’til January or February, then this situation should be self-resolving. Ha! Though I misdoubt me if there won’t be a lot of collateral damage in the meantime. Note well kids: always make sure you know whose corner you’re in before you decide to commit to a course of action.

Confidential to El Granto: buddy, you were right. Now would be the best time to have been hightailin’ it to school. Well, live and learn, I guess.

Beyond that, cookies are next on the menu of site-implementation. The adventure site seems to be coming along well, which is a shame because I probably won’t be gaming again until after February, or until I get some new players; such are the vagaries of an intermittant campaign, though.

I’ve been spending time hanging about, which means phunctional boredom. I really got to get my game schwerve on: there’s a surfeit of enjoyment to be had in Neverwinter Nights, Warcraft 3 and Jedi Knight II, and yet I’ve managed to stay game-free for the last little while. It may be my subconcious telling me to be more productive, and to some extent, it’s been successful. I have fiddled with the site some (notice, all ye, the Nav Bar! with the Currently Playing on Winamp perl script). And I’ve updated a few pages and standardized the headers and footers. But I fear it’s more ennui than anything else.

Ah heck. Joce is in town, and Dave is always a source of mayhem. And then again, there is the DVD-Phest this Saturday, wherein we will all lose our vision watching various gems of cinema and other lesser lights. harr.

It’s the returning part of the season. Dave is back from Europe, and Joce from Calgary; shenanigans must ensue quickly. In very much the point of fact, this merry crew of gamesters and geeks will be heading outwards to Necrowombicon 2 at Metrotown’s Playdium, which is essentially a giant arcade. With beer. Yay.

Smallish notes: Winamp 3 is out, and thankfully, the Winamp 2 Plugin Manager component is available (can’t live without that joystick control of Winamp, ya see…). But more trenchantly, Russ Garret has released a little component that dumps the info from the ID3 tag (and a little bit more) from a currently-playing song into a text file. One quick perl script and some SSI’s later, and the new navbar data shows you what music I’m currently listening to (if any); you should see it on the right, under the header “Currently listening to:”

And the time has come to decide what to do about the look and feel of the site. Yes, it’s vanity and intellectual wankery, but it’s also my online equivalent of redecorating the living room; it’s boring seeing the site the same way for months on end… though I can usually do an end-run around boredom by adding more phunctionality, which is why, after I finish testing the damn thing, I’ll activate the perl script which will allow users with ID’s and passwords to create photo directories and upload their pictures for all the world (all thirty regular visitors, and up to 300 curious passers-by, at least) to see.

One last thing. Goddamn Neon Genesis Evangelion. Aaargh. Because of it, I now own the DVD Boxed set (purchased, happily, from CNL Multimedia) and I now have two bad-ass Evas protecting my computer (and, yes, I did finally discover that my digital camera does have a macro function).
