I hope, that when I’m 87, after having made myself into the epitome of ancient wisdom and cunning manliness, and THEN been knighted by the Queen, I’ll be cool enough to be stand in the shadow of Christopher Lee, who’s now apparently doing vocals in a metal band.

an introduction to Christopher Lee’s newest work…

The associated Myspace page — Charlemagne: Heavy Metal Hero — reinforces my unswerving belief in his unswerving badassedness.

While I’m certainly not the mall ninja type, I can appreciate the bizarre functionality of the WASP injection knife.

Wasp Injection Knife

At first glance, I thought the gas reservoir at the back was used to launch the blade, but closer perusal showed that basically, jabbing the knife-tip in and depressing the stopper injected a basketball sized ball of pressurized gas into the target.

As the manufacturer says:

The effects of this injection will drop many of the world’s largest land predators. The effects of the compressed gas not only cause over-inflation during ascent when used underwater, but also freezes all tissues and organs surrounding the point of injection on land or at sea. When used underwater, the injected gas carries the predator to the surface BEFORE blood is released into the water. Thus giving the diver added protection by diverting other potential predators to the surface.

Yow.

The ever resourceful Rick has sent me a video link of some Japanese arcade gamer with some of the fastest hands I’ve ever seen. He’s playing some bishi bashi-esque game, but with a style and speed that needs to be seen to be believed.

I wish I could identify the name of the song that’s being played; damn my lack of a classical music education! (I make up for it by having an impressive repertoire of Canadiana music, as well as a frightening memory for video game and anime soundtracks…)

It’s nice to know that ancient, 2nd century AD geeks had high-quality random number generating polydrons such as this.

Natural 20!

This thing probably rolls crits like there’s no tomorrow.

Thanks to Rick and Orion, who brought it to my attention. I’d bet that the odds are that the person who originally owned this die is probably screaming (in Latin) “Dude, you don’t touch another man’s d20!”

I don’t like online quizzes. Normally, I flee from them. Then Spokey Dokey had “How Nintendo Are You” on her site, and I broke down.

:: how nintendo are you? ::

Thanks to Natsume Maya, I can now type the phrase “Urusai Tibikko” at ridiculously high speeds. This is because I’ve been practicing with the Read or Die the TV Typing Game “Anida” (which, Natsume Maya explains, is a pun, as the “da” means “to hit” — try the game and you’ll see why).

Urusai tibikko!

Ouch!

I… can’t… stop… typing!

There is a stark and terrifying beauty to the secret myth-stories told by Miami’s homeless children to each other as they gather in shelters. It is an act of desperate and brave humanity, and it creates a living world-story and a place for these children within that story, as well as providing a moral framework for them.

Via Insert Credit (soon to be added to the quick links due to sheer readability and coolness), comes a report of the creation of Plush Consoles, created by Zumi. Behold the cuteness:

Soft gaming happiness!

Plus Dreamcast and Gamecube consoles

Zumi’s made three of them so far; including a plush PC Engine (there’s a cool throwback for you), a Dreamcast and a Gamecube. The Kawaii Dreamcast (scroll most of the way down the page for a picture) needs to be seen to be believed. And I think I now have gifts for people this Christmas…

From Life Listed Chronologically comes a link to a japanese site wherein the principal players of the Mythos are rendered in chibi-form. Awwww! I can’t tell who’s cuter: the Chibi Dark Young, or the Chibi Great Race of Yith.

So adorable! Ia!

Cthulhu-chan!

Oddly, the character designs really make me wish you could play PS2 mods. A Cthulhu-mod for Disgaea using this artwork would be beyond awesome, if a tad heavy on the sanity-crushing side.

Hmm. If this obsession keeps up, I’ll need another Movable Type category for all things Cthulhu-related.
