I was sufficiently pleased to watch the Yamato 2199 remake; but I’m not too sure if Harlock can survive the jump from Leiji Matsumoto’s gorgeous animation to the new (and, admittedly equally gorgeous, but somehow not as personable) CGI. Doesn’t mean I’m not going to watch it, though.

I guess my trip out to Boston to visit Andrew (and see Dave and Andy) and the subsequent PAX East awesomeness has rekindled a fierce joy in playing retro (or retro-ish) games, what with the “last ever Retronauts” panel (and it’s subsequent Kickstarter), and the Wayforward-developed Ducktales HD remaster.

It probably helps too that 4chan has an extremely polite (by 4chan standards) new subforum — retro video games, and that’s where I found this gem:

It’s a 16-bit remake of the original Legend of Zelda, for BS Satellaview. You can read all about it here.

I have no idea how much this costs, but the sheer amount of customization and articulation has me intrigued. Shame about the color; like it’s trying too hard to evoke race-car mentality. Also, it doesn’t look terribly breathable, so long hours in this might be too sweaty for comfort. Still, it looks damn cool.

Well, it’s by CDProjekt, who doesn’t really have a foothold in the MMO space. And yet something about this game feels so very very right. The Witcher (and sequel) were great games, and the tone is right.

I mean, it’s never going to recapture the days of playing Shadowrun with the old crew in a Tim Horton’s back corner, but the nostalgic pull is still there. Teaser trailers like this exist to, well, tease, so it’s all promissory and no real substance, but a man can hope, yes?

Though I’m still kind of content-free for the time being. All the interesting stuff I’m linking is on Twitter, but Twitter are being right bastards about protecting their private ecology, so it’s hard going getting everything to work out in terms of automation. Still, it’ll get fixed, sooner or later. Though with patch 5.2 on the horizon and Borderlands 2 grabbing my entertainment hours, I’d put money on “later” rather than “sooner”.
